The Clacking Machine

CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK

The embroidery machine is a noisy thing

Although it clacks away at different speeds

Mainly, it stabs thread into cloth

At 700 stitches a minute

CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK

Most of the time, it hammers away

Until the design is finished

But sometimes it jams

And needs attention

CLACK CLACK…DING

Thread breaks

Bobbin thread runs out

Snarls and snags occur

Sometimes it’s nothing at all

It messes with us

And when it is finished

It plays an innocuous tune

But after hearing it thousands of times

“Innocuous” is no longer accurate

DA DA DA DUM, DA DA DA DUM, DA DA DA DUM

“Maddening” perhaps

“Fingernails-on-a-chalkboard” maybe

“Annoying” works

Regardless

It stitches on

And on

And on

CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK
